He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he studied music and theater. In 1985, Anton co-founded the Cowboy Junkies with his brother Michael Timmins, sister Margo Timmins, and Peter Timmins. The band has released twelve studio albums, and has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe. In addition to his work with the Cowboy Junkies, Anton has composed music for film and television, including the films The Hanging Garden, The Five Senses, and The Tracey Fragments.
