Alfonso Bedoya was a Mexican actor who is best known for his role as the bandit leader Gold Hat in the classic western film The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948). He was born on April 16, 1904 in Mexico City, Mexico. Bedoya began his career in the theater, performing in plays in Mexico City. He made his film debut in the Mexican film El Compadre Mendoza (1933). He went on to appear in over 50 films, mostly Mexican productions, but also in some American films. His most famous role was as Gold Hat in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948). He also appeared in the films Viva Villa! (1934), The Big Sleep (1946), and The Wild Bunch (1969). Bedoya died on September 18, 1957 in Mexico City, Mexico. He was 53 years old.
