Alonzo was born on April 2, 1948 in Manila, Philippines. He attended the University of the Philippines Diliman and graduated with a degree in Theater Arts. He began his career in the entertainment industry in the late 1970s, appearing in various television shows and films. Alonzo has been married to actress and singer Maricel Soriano since 1985. Alonzo won as Best Actor in the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts & Sciences (FAMAS) for Bambang (1982), and at the Metro Manila Film Festival for Bago Kumalat Ang Kamandag (1983), Moises Padilla Story: The Missing Chapter (1985) and Anak Badjao (1987).
Born to Alfredo Hernandez and Lourdes Viana, Antonio V. Hernandez received his elementary and secondary education at the Marulas Elementary School and Espiritu Santo High School, respectively. He took up Commerce at the Mapua Institute of Technology. Under the screen name "Anthony Alonzo," he forayed into movies.
