Arminio Fraga is a Brazilian economist and former central banker who served as the president of the Central Bank of Brazil from 1999 to 2003. He is currently the chairman of Gávea Investimentos, a Brazilian asset management firm. Born on July 20, 1957, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Arminio Fraga is the son of a Brazilian diplomat and a Brazilian mother. He attended the University of Brasília, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics in 1979. He then went on to earn a master's degree in economics from the University of Chicago in 1981. Fraga began his career in the financial sector in 1981, when he joined the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as an economist. He then went on to serve as the chief economist of the Central Bank of Brazil from 1986 to 1994. In 1999, he was appointed president of the Central Bank of Brazil, a position he held until 2003. In 2004, Fraga founded Gávea Investimentos, a Brazilian asset management firm. He currently serves as the chairman of the firm. As of 2021, Arminio Fraga's net worth is estimated to be $100 million.
