He was born in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in East Los Angeles. He began playing guitar at the age of 12, and by the time he was 15, he was playing in local bands. In 1973, Rosas joined Los Lobos, which was then known as Los Lobos del Este de Los Angeles. The band released their first album in 1984, and have since released a number of albums and singles, including the Grammy-winning single "La Bamba". Rosas has also released several solo albums, and has collaborated with a number of other artists, including Ry Cooder, John Hiatt, and Los Super Seven. Rosas is known for his unique style of playing, which combines elements of blues, rock, and traditional Mexican music.
