He was born on September 26, 1957 in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Baker attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a three-year letterman and a two-time All-Southwest Conference selection. He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 1980 NFL Draft. During his NFL career, Baker played in a total of 83 games, starting in 28 of them. He recorded a total of 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, and one fumble recovery. He was a member of the Cowboys' Super Bowl XII championship team. After his NFL career, Baker returned to Texas and became a successful businessman. He is currently the owner of a construction company in Austin.
