Chris Copping is a British musician, composer, and record producer. He is best known as the bassist and keyboardist for the progressive rock band Procol Harum. He was born on 29 August 1945 in Middleton, Manchester, England. Copping began his musical career in the early 1960s, playing in various bands in the Manchester area. In 1967, he joined Procol Harum, replacing original bassist David Knights. He remained with the band until 1977, when he left to pursue a solo career. Copping has released several solo albums, including "The Long Goodbye" (1978), "The Great Unknown" (1980), and "The Last Word" (1982). He has also composed music for television and film, including the theme song for the British television series "The Bill". Copping has been married twice and has two children. He currently lives in London.
