Dyan Cannon is an American actress, director, and writer. She is best known for her roles in films such as Heaven Can Wait (1978), The Last Married Couple in America (1980), and The End (1978). She has also appeared in television series such as The Love Boat (1977–1986) and The Golden Girls (1985–1992). Cannon was born Samile Diane Friesen on January 4, 1937, in Tacoma, Washington. She began her career as a dancer and model, appearing in television commercials and on the cover of magazines such as Glamour and Vogue. In the late 1960s, Cannon began appearing in films, including Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969) and The Anderson Tapes (1971). She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Heaven Can Wait (1978). In addition to her acting career, Cannon has also directed and written several films, including The End (1978) and The Last Married Couple in America (1980). She has also written two books, Dear Cary: My Life with Cary Grant (1991) and I'm Over All That (2002). Cannon has been married three times, most recently to actor Cary Grant from 1981 to 1982. She has one daughter, Jennifer Grant, from her marriage to Grant.
