Efrem Zimbalist Sr. was an American actor and musician. He was best known for his roles in the television series 77 Sunset Strip and The F.B.I. He was also a concert violinist and a composer. Born in Rostov-on-Don, Russian Empire, Zimbalist was the son of a Jewish family. He studied music at the Moscow Conservatory and later moved to the United States. He began his acting career in the 1920s, appearing in Broadway plays and silent films. In the 1950s, Zimbalist starred in the television series 77 Sunset Strip and The F.B.I. He also appeared in several films, including The Bigamist (1953), The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), and The Chapman Report (1962). In addition to his acting career, Zimbalist was a concert violinist and a composer. He wrote the theme music for 77 Sunset Strip and The F.B.I. He also composed the music for the film The Bigamist. Zimbalist died in 1985 at the age of 96. He was survived by his wife, actress Louise Erickson, and their two children, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. and Stephanie Zimbalist.
