Wells played Major League Baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays in 1981 and for the Minnesota Twins in 1982. Wells also played Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Hankyu/Orix Braves/BlueWave and Fukuoka Daiei Hawks between 1983–1992.
