Johnnie Mae Beard was an American actress and singer who was active in the entertainment industry from the 1920s to the 1950s. She was born in Oklahoma on March 20, 1900. Johnnie Mae Beard began her career in the 1920s, performing in vaudeville and on Broadway. She was a member of the all-black musical revue, "Shuffle Along," which opened on Broadway in 1921. She also appeared in the musicals "Runnin' Wild" and "Rhapsody in Black." In the 1930s, Johnnie Mae Beard moved to Hollywood and appeared in several films, including "The Emperor Jones" (1933), "The Big Broadcast of 1936" (1936), and "The Duke is Tops" (1938). She also appeared in the television series "The Amos 'n' Andy Show" (1951-1953). Johnnie Mae Beard was married to actor and singer Clarence Muse from 1932 until his death in 1979. She died on April 28, 1983 in Los Angeles, California. She was 83 years old.
