Vilda began his playing career with Atlético Madrid in 1999, and went on to play for several other clubs in Spain, including Rayo Vallecano, Racing de Ferrol, and Real Madrid Castilla. He retired from playing in 2008. Vilda began his coaching career in 2009, when he was appointed as the head coach of the Atlético Madrid women's team. He led the team to the Spanish Cup in 2011 and the Spanish Super Cup in 2012. In 2013, Vilda was appointed as the head coach of the Spanish women's national team. He led the team to the UEFA Women's Euro 2017 title, and the FIFA Women's World Cup 2019 final. Vilda is married to his wife, María, and they have two children.
