Joseph L. Alioto was an American actor and politician. He was born in San Francisco, California, and attended the University of San Francisco. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, he returned to San Francisco and began a career in politics. He was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1956 and served as mayor of San Francisco from 1968 to 1976. Alioto was an active member of the Democratic Party and was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1972. He was also a member of the California State Assembly from 1976 to 1980. Alioto was an accomplished actor, appearing in several films and television shows. He appeared in the films The Godfather Part II (1974), The Towering Inferno (1974), and The Conversation (1974). He also appeared in the television series The Streets of San Francisco (1972-1977). Joseph L. Alioto passed away on January 27, 1998 at the age of 81. His net worth at the time of his death was estimated to be around $2 million.
