She is best known for her work on the films Testament (1983), The Burning Bed (1984), and Mississippi Burning (1988). Littman began her career in television in the late 1960s, directing episodes of shows such as The Name of the Game, The Bold Ones, and The Mod Squad. She made her feature film debut in 1983 with Testament, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Director. She followed this up with the critically acclaimed The Burning Bed (1984), which earned her a second Academy Award nomination. In 1988, Littman directed Mississippi Burning, which earned her a third Academy Award nomination. She has since directed several other films, including The Haunting of Sarah Hardy (1989), The Doctor (1991), and My Life (1993). Littman has also directed episodes of television shows such as ER, Law & Order, and The West Wing. She has won several awards for her work, including the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series for her work on ER.
