Marco Doria is an Italian politician and former mayor of Genoa. He was born on 13 October 1957 in Genoa, Italy. He is the son of the former mayor of Genoa, Giuseppe Doria. Doria graduated from the University of Genoa in 1981 with a degree in political science. He then went on to become a professor of political science at the University of Genoa. In 1989, Doria was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies, representing the Italian Democratic Socialist Party. He served in the Chamber until 1994. In 1995, Doria was elected mayor of Genoa, a position he held until 2001. During his tenure, he was credited with helping to revitalize the city's economy and infrastructure. In 2002, Doria was appointed Minister of Public Works in the government of Silvio Berlusconi. He served in this position until 2006. In 2008, Doria was elected to the Italian Senate, representing the Democratic Party. He served in the Senate until 2013. In 2014, Doria was elected mayor of Genoa for a second time.
