Mathew was auditioned for the role of Franky Napoleon in Kumbalangi Nights (2019) from his school. The story is about four orphaned siblings, among them, Franky is a high-school student who keeps their home up and running, as the other three are happy-go-lucky. He lodged six months on location, undergoing several training sessions, such as swimming, football, casting a fishnet, rowing boat among others. The film was a critical and commercial success. It was followed by the lead role in Thanneer Mathan Dinangal (2019), a teenage romance film about a high-school student Jaison. It was also a commercial success in theatres. Then he appeared in a brief role as young Benjamin Louis in the crime thriller Anjaam Pathiraa (2020).

Mathew Thomas was born 16 October 2002 in Thiruvamkulam, Ernakulam district of Kerala, India. His father, Biju John Thuruthiyil, works as a Civil Engineer and his mother, Susan is a senior higher secondary school teacher in Mathematics. Mathew has an elder brother, John Thomas. Mathew did his play schooling at Hagia Sophia Public School, Ernakulam. He also studied in Indian School, Manama, Bahrain for few years while his parents were employed there temporarily. Upon return, he joined Gregorian Public School Mardu Eranakulam from where he was auditioned for Kumbalangi Nights.
