Michael Kamen was an American composer, orchestral arranger, and conductor who composed music for films, television, and video games. He was best known for his collaborations with director Terry Gilliam, including Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and 12 Monkeys. He also composed the scores for the Die Hard franchise, Lethal Weapon, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Kamen was born in New York City and studied at the High School of Music and Art. He went on to study at the Juilliard School of Music, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 1971. Kamen's career began in the 1970s, when he wrote music for television shows such as The Rockford Files and Kojak. He went on to compose the scores for films such as The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Brazil, and 12 Monkeys. He also composed the scores for the Die Hard franchise, Lethal Weapon, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Kamen won numerous awards for his work, including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series for his work on The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score for his work on Brazil. Kamen died in 2003 at the age of 55. At the time of his death, he had composed music for over 100 films and television shows.
