He is also a two-time Olympic gold medalist, having won the gold medal in the 1960 Rome Olympics and the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Benvenuti began his professional boxing career in 1959 and won his first world title in 1962. He held the world title for two years before losing it to Emile Griffith in 1964. He regained the title in 1966 and held it until 1968, when he lost it to Carlos Monzon. He retired from boxing in 1972 with a record of 85 wins, 8 losses, and 1 draw. In addition to his boxing career, Benvenuti has also had a successful acting career.
