Pierre Delanoë was a French songwriter and composer who wrote over 1,500 songs, including many hits for popular singers such as Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, and Jacques Brel. He was born in Paris on December 16, 1918, and began his career as a lyricist in the 1940s. He wrote his first hit song, "La Vie en Rose," for Piaf in 1947. Delanoë went on to write many more hits for Piaf, Aznavour, and Brel, as well as for other singers such as Yves Montand, Mireille Mathieu, and Johnny Hallyday. He also wrote the music for several films, including "The Longest Day" (1962) and "The Train" (1964). Delanoë was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1975 and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004. He died in Paris on June 18, 2006, at the age of 87.
