Rip Scherer is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the head coach of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Mocs football team. He has previously served as an assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Michigan, the University of Tennessee, and the University of Memphis. Scherer was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and attended North Allegheny High School. He played college football at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a three-year starter at quarterback. He graduated in 1975 with a degree in physical education. Scherer began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Pittsburgh in 1975. He then served as an assistant coach at the University of Michigan from 1976 to 1979. He then returned to Pittsburgh as an assistant coach from 1980 to 1983. Scherer then moved to the University of Tennessee, where he served as an assistant coach from 1984 to 1988. He then moved to the University of Memphis, where he served as an assistant coach from 1989 to 1993. Scherer was hired as the head coach of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Mocs football team in December of 2018. As of 2021, Rip Scherer's net worth is estimated to be around $1 million.
