Schrab was to mark his feature directorial debut with The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part but he left the project in February 2017. He was replaced by Mike Mitchell as director in same month. He co-directed Mystery Science Theater 3000 season 12 along with Joel Hodgson, directed an episode of the Creep Show reboot for Shudder (streaming service), and is currently at work with longtime friend and collaborator Dan Harmon on Rick and Morty for Adult Swim.

Schrab and long-time writing partner Dan Harmon wrote the 2006 feature film Monster House, later rewritten by Pamela Pettler.
