Sebastian Henckel-Donnersmarck is a German film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is best known for writing and directing the 2006 Academy Award-winning film The Lives of Others. He has also directed the films The Tourist (2010) and A Most Wanted Man (2014). Henckel-Donnersmarck was born in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, to a family of aristocrats. He studied at the University of Television and Film Munich and the University of Oxford. Henckel-Donnersmarck's first feature film, The Lives of Others, was released in 2006 and won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The film was also nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language. Henckel-Donnersmarck's other films include The Tourist (2010) and A Most Wanted Man (2014). He is currently working on a new film, The Red Sea Diving Resort.
