She attended the University of Illinois and graduated with a degree in kinesiology. Marks has competed in the triple jump at the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Olympics, as well as the 2005, 2009, and 2013 World Championships. She won the bronze medal at the 2005 World Championships and the silver medal at the 2009 World Championships. She also won the gold medal at the 2011 Pan American Games. Marks is currently the American record holder in the triple jump, with a jump of 14.99 meters. She is also the holder of the Illinois state record in the triple jump, with a jump of 14.90 meters. Marks is currently married to fellow triple jumper, Chris Carter. They have two children together.
