Stan Berenstain was an American writer and illustrator best known for creating the Berenstain Bears series of children's books with his wife, Jan Berenstain. He was born on September 29, 1923 in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Berenstain began his career as an illustrator for magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post and Collier's. He and his wife, Jan, collaborated on the first Berenstain Bears book, The Big Honey Hunt, in 1962. The series went on to become one of the most popular children's book series of all time, with over 300 titles published. Berenstain was also the author of several other books, including The Berenstains' B Book, The Berenstains' Baby Book, and The Berenstains' Big Book of Science and Nature. He was also the co-creator of the animated television series The Berenstains' Bears, which aired from 1985 to 1997. Berenstain died on November 26, 2005 at the age of 82. He was survived by his wife, Jan, and their two sons, Leo and Michael.
