He is best known for his roles in the films The Long Good Friday (1980), The Elephant Man (1980), and The Killing Fields (1984). Bill began his career as a stage actor in the late 1960s, appearing in productions at the Royal Court Theatre and the National Theatre. He made his film debut in the 1979 drama The Shout, and went on to appear in a number of films throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In addition to his acting career, Bill is also a writer. He has written several plays, including The Long Good Friday (1980), which was adapted into a feature film starring Bob Hoskins.
