She began playing the violin at the age of five and was classically trained. She attended the University of Southern California, where she studied music composition and production. In 2006, Santo formed the folk-rock duo HoneyHoney with Ben Jaffe. The band released three albums, including Billy Jack in 2011, which reached number one on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. In 2017, Santo released her debut solo album, Ruby Red. The album was produced by Grammy-winning producer T Bone Burnett and featured guest appearances from Jackson Browne, Shooter Jennings, and others. In 2020, Santo released her second solo album, Dead or Alive. The album was produced by Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb and featured guest appearances from Brandi Carlile, Shooter Jennings, and others. Santo has also appeared in several films and television shows, including the Netflix series, The Ranch. She has also composed music for films, including the 2018 drama, The Miseducation of Cameron Post.
